Since the external temperature environment cannot be controlled, especially in cold winter or rainy and snowy weather, if the temperature is too low, measures need to be taken to improve the cold start performance of
diesel generator sets.

1) Auxiliary heating measures are the most commonly used cold start methods, including intake air preheating, flame preheating, water jacket heater, fuel heater and lubricating oil heater.
Installing an intake air preheating device in the intake manifold can increase the intake air temperature. The PTC ceramic heater is an effective choice with the advantages of high thermal efficiency, low power consumption, compact structure, automatic temperature control, low heat generation, not easy to oxidize and long life. Even at a low temperature of -40℃, the unit can be successfully started.
The flame preheating starting device is usually composed of an electronic controller, a solenoid valve, a temperature sensor, a flame preheating plug, an oil pipe and a wire. Its working process is: first, the glow plug is heated to 850~950℃, then the motor is started, the solenoid valve automatically opens the oil circuit, and oil is supplied to the glow plug through the oil pipe, and finally the flame preheating start is achieved.
In the cooling system, installing a jacket heater can increase the temperature of the coolant. The jacket heater can circulate the coolant heated to 45-50°C to the cylinder jacket of the engine to keep the engine in a warm state.
Similarly, fuel heaters and lubricating oil heaters can be installed in the fuel system and lubricating oil system to heat the engine, thereby improving the cold start performance of the unit.
2) In extremely cold areas, the starting battery adopts a winding design. This battery uses spiral winding technology. The grid alloy is replaced by a new lead alloy instead of the lead-calcium alloy of the traditional flat battery. The gap between the plates is very small, the acid is solid acid, and it is adsorbed by the glass fiber mesh, and the structure is compact. There is no liquid acid that will freeze at low temperatures, so the current output drops less. Its starting current is three times that of ordinary batteries, and the starting time can be as fast as 0.6 seconds. It has a stable high output voltage and higher energy density. The service life is usually more than 1.5 times that of ordinary flat batteries.
3) Use low-temperature diesel, coolant and low-temperature lubricating oil that adapt to the ambient temperature. Generally speaking, the ratings of low-temperature diesel, low-temperature lubricating oil and coolant should be at least 5°C lower than the ambient temperature.
4) Install a moisture-proof heater in the electric control box of the electric control system to improve the working conditions of the electric control system at low temperatures.
